PortageLIVE! was born in 1989 out of the efforts of a group of concerned individuals who cared about our community. They were convinced that our future depended upon the perception of families who would seek to live and work in a community which offered an exceptional range of educational, recreational and cultural pursuits. While educational and recreational opportunities were abundant, few cultural activities thrived.
Charter President Russell A. Willis and his wife Martha, with a collection of energetic volunteers who shared a vision of professional artists performing in Portage, formed PTLEA. The 2015-16 Concert Season represents PTLEA's 26th season of wonderful entertainment by professional and world-renowned artists performing at Portage High School East Auditorium. We have enjoyed excitingly diverse performance ranging from singers and dancers to instrumentalists...from Chinese Acrobats and Magicians to ballet... from a Boys Choir to Five Centuries of dance... from Troubadour C.C. Ryder to Tony Sandler's Lerner and Lowe.
While our foundation has been firmly fixed in place, we must work to grow PTLEA to an auditorium-capacity crowd of 1200 Season Ticket holders to begin to realize our goals. Our goals are for our community to symphony orchestras and bands as well as soloists and small groups, additional series that provide performances which appeal to all age groups, student workshops to expose our young to professional performers, scholarships for the performing arts, theater and outdoor concerts.
To continue to help make Portage Township and even more attractive place to live, we need your help. We ask that you continue to renew you Season Tickets each year. We ask that you become a Patron of the Arts. We ask that you patronize the community businesses that support PTLEA with their financial gifts. We ask that you support the PTLEA Foundation, which will enhance our operating budget in perpetuity. And just as important, we ask that you spread the word about the PTLEA The help of every Season Ticket holder is needed if we are to realize our goals. Thank you for making Portage Township a better place to live, work, and play.
